unit 5: digital publishing production.( moses)

1.Understand the need for a storyboard when developing a website.
The need to develop a storyboard is to follow a basic structure and understanding of each factor and characteristic of that website. It gives us a visual representation of the website and its structure it helps to understand where each component of that website.
2.       Types of storyboards for websites.
This storyboard design for a website is very basic as it does not provide a visual representation of that websites design. The components of each box however provide details or links inside links.

This storyboard gives us a visual representation of the website design; it shows a placement of components in the website designed provides information as to what you can put where.

Importance of a storyboard
·         A storyboard is important in designing a website as it provides a visual representation of the components in a storyboard.
·         They help to create an understanding of the structure so they can provide the information needed for the audience without confusion.
·         Storyboards help to create a draft of the website so they can see what works best in the understanding of the website.
·         Text Box: The main page provides basic information to the targeted audience which could provide many visual images representing the company and what they do.It helps to create a suitable visualisation to see if is suitable for the target audience of the website.
Text Box: This lets the audience of the website know the name of the website and the company’s logo.
Text Box: Menu helps the user of the website to execute a function in the website providing lots of information. Text Box: Product information and a graphic image help the audience understand the product they are selling.
Text Box: Contact information helps the audience to contact the company of the website to communicate enquiries they have.

You have been asked to produce a visual report evaluating the effectiveness of storyboard designs in communicating ideas and information. You must evaluate examples from a range of different sectors (e.g. television, film, games design) and contexts (e.g. animation, music videos, documentaries).
For each example given you should consider the following features;
  • Effective use of imagery
  • Effective use of camera movements, framing, angles
  • Effective communication of sound direction
  • Effective use of transitions and edits.
  • How effectively the storyboards give directions and visualize the content of production on a scene-by-scene basis.
  • Clarity of layout, style and format (e.g. frames per page) for ease of use
  • Continuity
You must evaluate the effectiveness of your examples in fulfilling their purpose of visually communicating ideas and information, and leading to efficient production outcomes.

Storyboards are really effective as they allow you to expand your imagination exploring new ideas and coming up with even more great ones. In movies and music videos they are really great as they allow you to create good polished scenes. Marvel films follow really good storyboards and it’s proven in the films that imagination has gone out of the box without of this world ideas. Game designs also follow good imagination, especially animated sci-fi games as they allow the creators to expand their knowledge into a vast array of amazing ideas. Television however is different as they are more scripted depending on the category of TV, for example reality TV wouldn’t be able to expand their knowledge as it’s more formal whereas kids TV show (animations) would be similar to movies. Imagination also in all sectors really helps to communicate ideas as it helps the creators to understand the minds of each over. Storyboards only in text of a storyboard allow you to portray camera movement’s shots and angles for music videos television however not in visual images. Movies especially in the animation sectors along with digital games allow you to visually present camera movements angles and shots in a storyboard. These are specifically animatic and digimatic storyboards. These communicate ideas to the creators as they allow them to see what really works best for the production. Sound direction is really important in the creation of a production and a storyboard. Music in productions may only appear on animatic storyboards however text for sound FX can be input so the creators know what sound they are looking for, sound direction is really important in music as it’s the whole purpose so storyboards for music which are very detailed are created digitally with much electronic equipment. Transitions and edits are how the scenes are put together which partially includes camera angles shots and movements. transition and edits are used in film, TV, music and animated etc. storyboards, although some may be hand done, storyboards can be created on all platforms for all sectors if done really well with knowledge to do so, transition and edits are good features of a storyboard as it really helps the creators to understand different angles and shots to see if its workable with. Edits include everything that’s put into a scene which could be change of colour or photo sopped items, this again works on all platforms and sectors if knowing how to do so. Storyboards give are really good sense of direction and visualisation in a production by a scene to scene basis, in all sectors of production they all need to be very detailed and contextualised to the creators and crew so everyone has a good understanding of what to do, which influences the sense of direction as it keeps everything in check as everyone has a great understanding of what they are doing. Visually however on a starboard it would include scene directions such as the camera movements shots and angles, edits that need to be put in, transitions etch however this is really optional depending on how professional you are and what you are capable of doing. Live reality TV is really hard to put everything in storyboard however it is all done professionally with the use of sound between the crew. every sectors creates a different array of storyboards so every style and format will be different to another . every frame would include a different duration of each scene which could effect the detail of the scene. (longer duration mean many more frames which mean a larger storyboard which really presents how clean and well presented the production would be. continuity means the stability of a production which really represents the performance of all sectors and the performance by the creators and crew. its a consistent rythm of timim=ng to keep everything in an order so no one is confused during the creation of the vast array of productions.

Research the features of a storyboard.
Description: Image result for example of perfect storyboardA storyboard is a visual representation of a collection of images which make up a story, episode, music video or even digital games. A storyboard consists of images, dialogue and or text and even details linking to cinematography lighting and sound. They help to bring a production of any sort together, helping with timing as well. A storyboard helps the crew on set to understand the focus of each scene so it is polished and clean.
Features of a storyboard include:

·         The Production Name – a storyboard includes a name so the crew on the production know they are working on the right production.

·         Scene numbers – scene numbers are needed to help the crew understand what scene is being done. They help to arrange the scenes in a chronological order to save time on set.

·         Pictures- pictures are used in a storyboard so the director knows what’s going on in a scene, it helps them to understand if the visual image is right for the scene or not. It also helps the crew to understand the setting.

·         Text- texts may include dialogue which helps the cast members to understand what they as saying (also included in scripts). Camera angles movements and shots may also be present to help the crew members on camera to know what they are doing when shooting a scene. Texts may include sound also so people on sound know what sort of sound may need to be played or the level of sound needed for the scene etc.

·         Narration and audio- this includes all sound in the production. Audio and narration help with animation storyboards so the creator gets a good idea of how the scene will sound.

Different Types of storyboards.

Movie storyboards
A movie production storyboard typically consists of visual images in a chronological order. They do not normally consist of text as a script will contain most of the dialogue, camera angles shots movements, and sound effects. These visual images help to understand what’s going on when.
Digital games storyboard
Digital game production storyboards consist of many images to put together a whole game. They may also include directions as to how to play and in game directions. A digital storyboard is very complex because they are hard to put together when including everything that’s featured for this type of storyboard.
Music video storyboards
A music video productions storyboard consists of visual images shot durations and sounds (featured track). Music video storyboards consist of all of this because it helps with timing the levels of sound needed per shot and the sounds featured in that particular scene. Normally a music video would also include and introduction which may include different sounds and shot duration making it all really important and reliable when making a music video production.
Animation storyboards – animation storyboards can consist of everything including shot transitions featured sounds and visual images. An animation storyboard is very detailed as it can all be done on computer or by hand   (normally computer).

All storyboards really have a similar layout, visual images in boxes which may or may not include some sort of text in the making. However the way they are made may be different from one another based on the type of storyboard being made we have our tradition storyboard like movie storyboards, whereas they may or may not be rushed if so they are they are thumbnail storyboards which are rushed. Animatic storyboards are for digital games and animations as they are done normally on a computer as the style is very different. Digitmatics are like animatic however they are numbers, not letters, these are also used in digital games as coding is needed to put together a rough idea.
